Top 5 Things People Buy During the Recession

Apart from this...

"Honey... The last thing we want in this bad economy is those cute but expensive little children..."

Surprise surprise! We all would rather spend some quality time at home these days! Of course, what other "fun" things can you do at home right? *wink* But the last thing people want of course is children. Sales of family planning supplies and contraceptives shot up in 2009!

People are also increasing the consumption of these things during the recession:

1) Candy Gifts - Girls, I think it's time to stop expecting surprise lavish gifts like holidays, jewellery, that new designer bag or a 5-star candle lit dinner. These days, partners are downgrading to small little gifts! B-)

2) Canning & Freezing Supplies - Yes, most people are skipping the supermarket jams, preserves and frozen meals and making their own at home instead! People are cooking and freezing more at home these days to save on costs.

3) Baking Supplies - Sales of baking mixes and supplies like dough, flour and baking mixes hiked up in early 2009. Baking at home with your family at home is much funner than buying cupcakes from the cafe!

4) Fresh Groceries - Sales of fresh meats, vegetables, grains, cheeses and pasta are up! Clearly people are getting back to the good old days of wholesome home cooking this year ;)

5) Wine & Liquor - In relevance to couples now love to canoodle and snuggle at home instead of spending money on a night out... People still want to drink at home too. Wine and liquor sales are up... *refer to the first point... maybe THAT'S why sales of condoms are up, wink*
