Random Food Science Blog Posts of the Week

Here are some random surfing I did on the topic of Food Science. Heh, there aren't really so many "fun" and frequently updated places to snoop on Food Science & Technology though , I guess I have to look harder for those gems. But I found some really cool ones during my furious Food Science blog surfing. I do agree these blogs have some really well-written and informational posts about the field. Pretty much detailed too, if you are in need of some heavy Food Techie information. But still, people: WHERE ARE THE OTHER COOL PLACES FOR FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY ON THE NET I CAN GO TO??! :)

Bu anyhow, these are some blog posts that got me reading and wanting more!:

1) How Some Food Can Make Us Sick
at Junkfood Science.
  • Has anyone heard of "Nocebo"? It is by dfinition "a real and extraordinary physical and mental symptoms of illness, even paralysis, when they believe they’ve eaten or been exposed to something they think or fear could be harmful." In a nutshell, it means if we think we are sick after eating something, we will get sick.
2) Europe Rejects Droves of Food Claims at Food Politics
  • Hundreds of food claims rejected by European Food Standards Agency (EFSA) particularly for probiotics. As the author of the blog says: "Health claims are all about marketing, not health".
3) Periodic Tables of Food at Khymos
  • How cool is this! The blog author compiled an entire visual list of PERIODIC TABLES FOR FOOD!! From candy to dessert to sandwiches - this is must-see! :-D This blog is classified under "molecular gastronomy" - the study of physical and chemical processes that occur in cooking.
4) Autumn Leaves at Playing with fire and water
  • Wow wow wow! With the amount of science (and culinary skills) required to create such stunning mouth-watering food pieces - this takes cooking up a notch! This post shows some very artfully crafted Autumn leaf themed canapes that looks far too beautiful to eat! And the amount of food science used, phew I'm breaking a sweat looking at the ingredient list!
5) Is it Ok to Feed Kids Hot Dogs? at Food Science Mum
  • A blog post from a Mummy Nutritionist who talks about what is in that juicy, savoury piece of hot dog? Not only related to kids, but adults in general - why they shouldn't really be included in your diet too often.

Til then, share with me here if you have other interesting blogs about Food Science that I can visit. Toodles~!
